Obtaining NIE (Barcelona)

Right, this is my third week here in Barcelona and I am trying to get an appointment for Family of residents at foreigners office however with no success at all so is it like impossible to get an appointment in august? and is there any way round it to get my NIE? any advise would be really appreciated.
