Basel: what a newbie should know about the city

Dear Basel Community, I wil relocate to Basel in...uhm...20 hours and I am more and more scared by the fact that I do now know Basel at all...I would really appreciate if you can give me some suggestions about where to live in town (for the next 3 months I will use a corporate flat), best shops area, fitness center, nightlife and whatever you think should be knonwn by a local!
