Experience of importing into China (Beijing)

Hi There,

I am currently preparing to send a number of items via sea freight to our apartment in Beijing. I decided to do a little research into what exactly you can import into China and I’m rather alarmed at what I have found is banned:

‘Printed matter, films, photographs, gramophone records, cinematographic films, loaded recording tapes and videotapes, compact discs (video and audio), storage medium for the computer and other articles which are detrimental to the political, economic, cultural and moral interests of the People's Republic of China.’
Does anyone know how literally this should be taken?

For example, if I am trying to ship over the following items:

DVDs, CDs and Videogame discs
Adult and Children’s fiction books
A portable hard-drive
A laptop or net-book

Would any of them get through or would they likely be seized at customs?
If any of you have any experience in bringing your goods into China I would really like to know how you got on.

Any helps much appreciated,

Cheers.

Mike.
