Having baby in china advice needed (Beijing)

Hi everyone, my chinese wife and I will be having a baby in February. After trawling the internet and not finding any concrete procedures I thought I'd ask here.
I am british, I am currently here on a family visa we plan to visit the uk once the baby is born. My wife already has a child on her hukou, so baby will not receive chinese citizenship.
1) what do we need to do once the baby is born? Where do I need to register the baby?
2) what is procedure to get a british passport for the baby, can it be arranged in the consular office?

Any advice would be appreciated.
