Home essentials - suggestions please (Beijing)

Hi everyone,
Hubby & I are now in Beijing and have, quite unbelievably, found an apartment to rent, we're expecting to sign the contract next week. We also hope to move in quite soon after that.
What I'm asking for is suggestions as to where we can buy essentials like bedding, towels, crockery, pans, cutlery etc and a kettle & toaster. We won't have a lot of time to go from shop to shop, if possible, I would rather go to one or two shops to get what we need to start off and add the less essential items as we go, or root around my home in the UK & bring it back in January when we move.
Where would people suggest we try? I've looked at Ikea online and we've been to Carrefour & Walmart but does anyone have any better suggestions?
