Languages (Beirut)

Just wondering whether anyone can give me some advice about languages.

I speak fluently English and I am enrolled to a French course, which i think both will be quite important for "expat-living" in Beirut. But my main concern is Arabic.

The arabic courses that are taught in my country (Netherlands) are all based on Modern Standard Arabic, which for as far as I know is quite different from Lebanese Arabic, except from writing.

Do you guys think it is worth the effort and time to learn MSA before i move to Beirut, or do you think English and French will already suffice, both for social and professional life?

Thanks in advance.

Alex
