Residence Visa for Spouse (Beirut)

Hello, I'm thoroughly fed up with trying to get an answer from anyone in General Security. My wife is an AUB graduate student. I'm accompanying her and learning Arabicon my own. We're living on my retirement pension and savings.

We were led to believe that AUB would help us figure out who to speak with about my visa paperwork. They've been worse than useless. I'm hoping that someone here can help me out. We are both students and living on my meager pension until after grad school. I can't afford to leave the country every few months to renew my tourist visa. Can anyone help direct me toward someone useful?

It seems absurd that an accompanying spouse cannot receive a residence visa also. Thank you in advance!
