Good tips for renting short term in Berlin?

Now that AirBnB has been banned. A bit of shambles that. My wife and I would like to spend some quality time, about a month in Berlin to get a feel as to if it could be a place we could possibly settle in. I understand getting places there is not so easy. Especially short term with this big housing shortage etc. Any tips would be great! Thanks!
