School advice for family about to relocate (Berlin)

Some terrific circumstances mean that we're planning to relocate our family of 5 from San Francisco to Berlin *this summer*. We're eagerly looking for schools for our delightful kids: Madeline Protected content , Margot Protected content , and Graham Protected content . We're particularly interested in the Berlin International School and Berlin Metropolitan School. (The others we've seen either don't have space or don't take applications any longer.)

Right now, it seems that the waiting list is the best we can get.

I'd appreciate any advice other expat parents have about getting in to these schools.

Do Berlin schools appreciate parent involvement the way US schools do? If so, should we indicate this to the school? For example, I've taught genetics and coached ultimate frisbee. I would love to engage in this way in my kids' new school community.
