Tips on getting your child into the Kita of choice (Berlin)

Hello, parents out there

Everyone knows that getting a Kita placement for your child is a nightmare. Does anyone have any tips on how to secure a place at your Kita of choice? It seems to be a bit of pot luck, but surely there must be some secret behind it - for example, do you have to offer proactive involvement in the Kita?
