Where to live in Bern?

I'm moving to Bern by myself next summer and was wondering where it is fun to live and make some friends, and still have relatively easy access to the main train station (work will be outside of Bern).
I read on another forum that Breitenrain and Langgasse are nice areas, but that post was from long ago. Does anyone have any suggestions?
