Relocating to Birmingham from India with Family

I have been offered to work in UK. My office is in stratford road. I will be moving in with family (1spouse, 1 infant), from India in the last week of October.

Considering I will be earning approx Protected content pa, I would like to have your suggestions for following
1. accommodation (type of house/flat to rent, what to look for etc),
2. areas that I can afford to stay in (closer to stratford road, accessible in public transport, easier on the pocket, budget like Protected content enough ?),
3. Where to stay initially upon arrival, before i rent a house
4. How to plan my commute.. is there good public transport bus/train connectivity ?
5. Though I am not particular it might be helpful if i know any nearby Indian communities where I can search for a house on rent
6. any tips/pointers for things to do upon arriving, weather during November etc..
