Obtaining a Driver's License in Colombia (Bogotá)

Hello

Just moved to Colombia and need to get a Driver's License.

I already have a license from India and one from the US (which already expired though).

I went to SIM (Secretaria Integral de Movilidad) and no one there had an idea of how an foreigner like me could obtain a license. So they suggested I should take a driving course and at the conclusion I will get a license (which is usually the process for a beginner driver). Upon contesting that I have been driving for many years in various countries including Colombia during past travels and certainly don't need a course.

They didn't know what to do and recommended the following:
- register for RUNT
- go to Centro de Reconocimiento de Conductores and they will provide further guidance

Can someone who has already obtained a license recently provide some guidance? I would certainly like to avoid doing a course which I've heard costs a few million Col Pesos.
