Opening a local bank account (Bogotá)

I just moved here from the States, and plan to stay a number of months. I was hoping to open a local bank account, as I don't relish the idea of traveling with my US debit card. I thought it would be relatively straightforward, as I've opened accounts in other countries before without much hassle. However, I don't have a work permit and am currently here on a tourist visa. I also don't speak Spanish very well.

First off, is it even possible for me to open an account without having a work visa? And if so, what's the easiest way to go about doing this?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!
