UK Driving licence validity (Bogotá)

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the validity of a UK driving licence is here in Colombia?, I have read on the uk.gov website that its ok as long as the licence is valid but have read elsewhere that you need an international driving permit from the post office of which mine has expired. I don't want to give papaya to the transit police should I get randomly stopped.

I know the Colombian licence in the UK is only valid for a year.
