Bonn unites to mourn victims of terror

Bonn residents, volunteers and refugees are joining hands tomorrow at 6 pm at Hofgarten (across the Institut Francais) to show solidarity and mourn victims of terror attacks in Paris, Beirut, Syria, Iraq and elsewhere.

What: Memorial for victims of terror, war and blind hatred

When: November 20 at 6 p.m.

Where: Hofgarten, Am Hofgarten, corner of Adenauerallee, across from the Institut Français (Adenauerallee 35)

Who: Concerned citizens, young and old, volunteers and refugees

Background: In the wake of the recent terror attacks, we would like to remember, together with our new friends and neighbors, all victims of the Daesh terror around the world and every form of terrorism, hatred and senseless violence. We want to stand side by side, united for peace, and light candles for a world without discrimination, religious and xenophobic violence and an open modern global society. We are standing for a world of universal respect for human rights and the Geneva refugee convention, where everyone has the freedom to believe whatever they want to, and a world of kindness, empathy and compassion.

That’s why we, a diverse group of Bonn residents, are coming together this Friday, a week after the Paris attacks, in silence. We’re distancing ourselves from all ideologies, religious and political dogma.

We just want to mourn together, share our common humanity and “give peace a chance”. We welcome everyone who shares our pain and hope for a peaceful coexistence, united in diversity, not only in Germany and in Europe, but also in the Middle East and anywhere on earth.
