Health insurance for US citizens (Bordeaux)

I need some help with info on health insurance. My wife and I want to retire in France. I will be 70 and my wife 68 when we move. I understand we must have insurance before we can get a resident permit. Anyone have any information that will be helpful. If someone is already paying for insurance could you let us know what you are paying
