New Yorkers retiring in/around Bordeaux?...

Hi everyone--new to the forum. We are a gay couple, decades-long New Yorkers, closing in on retirement age although still a few years away. For cultural, climatic, and cost-of-living reasons, we've been thinking about the environs of Bordeaux as a congenial final resting place, so to speak. We'd like to be able to produce some income, with the understanding that we can't hold jobs in the conventional sense--so we've been considering buying a village property with a nice garden and outbuildings to rent, or maybe even operating a bed-and-breakfast kind of establishment. We'd like to be within a reasonable distance of Bordeaux, but haven't zeroed in on a more specific location yet (Gironde? Perigord? Entre-deux-mers? not a clue…). Does this seem like a feasible plan for a couple of non-EU guys? How hospitable would villagers in the Dordogne or Aquitaine be to gay Americans? Should we stick closer to the city? Are we crazy? All thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks - Bill
