Country trainers for China (Shanghai and Hong Kong), Brazil, the Netherlands and Russia (Greater Boston Area)
The Dutch Royal Tropical Institute, better known as KIT in the Netherlands, is an independent knowledge and expertise center for international and intercultural cooperation. KIT Intercultural Management & Communication (KIT IMC bv) is the training and consultancy unit of KIT, focusing on the field of intercultural management and communication.
Starting on or around September 1, we will be offering intercultural training sessions for businesspeople, their spouses, and their children in the Greater Boston Area. We are currently looking for guest speakers on China, Brazil, the Netherlands and Russia. Topics/modules to be addressed include the following:
• Behavioral patterns of <country>, and their backgrounds: This module discusses the host country’s most important behavioral patterns. The participant learns to recognize these patterns and develop an understanding of the inhabitants’ social and cultural background, and their way of thinking and operating. Topics include different population groups, etiquette, religion, history and rituals.
• Living & working in <country>: This module deals with aspects such as arrival, housing, shopping, house personnel, the expat community, possibilities of employment for the partner, health, recreation and other cultural aspects, e.g. the position of women. The social aspects of work will be covered as well.
• Business culture in <country>: An introduction by a country expert on <country> business culture: background and orientation, stakeholders inside and outside the organization, building relations, codes of behavior, communication patterns, management styles, negotiations, hierarchy, dealing with conflicts.
• Junior program (ages 12 and up) – (Living in the country, society, economy and history of country)
Modules will be 1.5 hours in length. Guest speakers are expected to prepare an engaging and informative presentation that utilizes interactive exercises and audiovisual materials whenever possible. Prior to the training day, guest speakers will receive an intake form completed by the trainees and should be able to field any specific questions they might have. This is a part-time position on an as-needed basis.
The two major destinations for our clients are Shanghai and Hong Kong, so for country trainers for China, extensive knowledge of society and work in at least one of these two places is essential. We are also looking for trainers for Brazil, the Netherlands and Russia.
