Films from around the world for kids (1/18-21)! (Boston)

Belmont World Film's Family Festival offers four days of some of the world’s best films for children Protected content their adults, as well two live performances. The festival takes place January Protected content , Protected content the Regent Theatre in Arlington (7 Medford Street), Studio Cinema in Belmont Protected content Road), and Brattle Theatre in Cambridge Protected content Street). Films are screened in English or their native language with subtitles, most of which will be read aloud via headphones for young readers, and many are being screened in the US for the first time.

Films are from Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Serbia, the UK, and the US. The schedule includes:

Friday, January 18: Regent Theatre
7:30 PM - Magic & Music: The Films of French Filmmaker George Méliès

Saturday, January 19: Studio Cinema
10:30 AM - What's New From Weston Woods featuring the premieres of animated versions of children's books.
12: Protected content AND THE BIRDS, an animated film from Brazil in competition for the Oscar's Best Animated Film.
1:30 PM - ZOOks, an animated film from Belgium about an evil king who tries to destroy nature.
3:15 PM - ROSIE AND MOUSSA, a Belgian film about a 10 year-old girl from Brussels in search of her father.

Sunday, January 20: Regent Theatre
10:30 AM - WBUR presents "Circle Round," a live version of the popular podcast featuring folk tales from around the world, followed by an autograph signing.
12:15 PM - Laugh Out Loud with Mo Willems features animated versions of his famous books, including the never-before-seen Nanette's Baguette.
1:30 PM - CHUSKIT, a film based on a true story of a wheelchair-bound 10 year-old girl in the Indian Himalayas who fights for the right to go to school.
3:15 PM - THE WITCH HUNTERS, a special screening of a Serbian film presented by the Consulate General of Serbia in New York.
5:00 PM – Ballad from Tibet, based on a true story about students from a school for the blind in Tibet who walk to China to appear on a reality TV talent show.

Monday, January 21: Brattle Theatre
10:30 AM - Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. features a program of short animated films about the legacy, people, and ideas connected to Dr. King.
12: Protected content HIGHWAY RAT, the swashbuckling animated tale of a greedy rat who craves buns, biscuits and candies, featuring the voices of David Tennant and Rob Brydon (shown with THE GRUFFALO).
1:15 PM - JIM BUTTON AND LUKE THE ENGINE DIRVER about an adopted boy and a magical train, based on the beloved German children’s book by Michael Ende ("The Neverending Story").
3:15 PM - CROSSROADS, about a group of at-risk African American teenagers at a North Carolina charter school who find salvation through lacrosse, followed by a Q&A with the director and film subjects moderated by WBUR's Shira Springer.
