Voluntary activities in Boston

Hello everybody,
I am an Italian urban planner working as a consultant for a company based in Boston. I will be in Boston for around a month between March 15th and April 15th. During my free time (night and weekend) I would like to find some voluntary activity (homeless, children, church).
I really would like to spend my free time in this type of activity. Is there someone that can help me on this?
