Getting a UK work visa (Brighton)

Hi all,

Does anyone have information or advice on how to obtain a UK work visa as an American? I am currently living and working in Germany with a German work visa and wanting to relocate to the UK, more specifically Brighton...

I've been applying to companies as a qualified candidate but have been running into a few hiccups.... many companies are asking that I have a work permit before hiring. However, I have heard that I need to be sponsored by an employer before getting a work visa. If anyone has had similar experiences, I would appreciate any advice I can get.
