i need advice from the expats (Brisbane)

my name is Jesse Hamel i am a 30 year old Canadian citizen wishing to move to Australia
i have 7 years in the heavy equipment construction industry, 3 years in the electrical trade, and 7 years in the restaurant business.
i wanted to ask a few questions as to what are the steps. Do i apply for the job before the visa? Protected content do i apply while i am in Canada?
i am in Canada at the moment. leaving for New Zeland in October and should be in Australia at that time also.
i am willing to do any kind of work i can get and as many hours as they offer. my goal is to just be living in Australia. its my dream to live there permantly. i was there on a one year working holiday visa in 09 but it was cut short. any advice would be amazing and i would be very greatful
