Where to live near Brussels?

Dear all,

We, a Dutch family of 5 with little children (0,4,6), have to decide where to live near Brussels. We already decided not to live in the city of Brussels, but in one of the surrounding villages.

Therefore we are very curious what other expats' experiences are and what you would recommend us.

Important aspects for us are: quality and availibility of schools and childcare/pre-school facilities, sports/playing facilities, shops and restaurants, the general atmosphere/environment/quality of life.
