Bank Fees/Interest Rates/Mortgages (Cairo)

Okay coming from Canada, I'm a bit naive in terms of how the banking system operates in Egypt. I'm wondering what the bank fees are for chequing and savings accounts in Cairo. Ones at home tend to be a bit high with the lowest interest rates possible! 1% a year is a joke!
I'm aware the interest rates for savings can start at around 9% in Egypt. Is that correct? Can anyone give me information about the most reputable chartered banks to go with?

Another thing....I'm used to the Canadian system of focusing most of your earnings towards paying off a 25 year mortgage (ouch) where banks take a fair share in interest(double ouch), I'm wondering how the buying of property works there! HELP!
