New arrival is disorientated (Cairo)

I have decided to live in Cairo for a few years but could do with some orientation by sympathetic like minded people. i am on my own and presently trapped in the killing zone of Talalt Harb.

I plan to find a temporary room in a flat or house while I see if I can get work here as a photographer, writer and/or English teacher.
If I get established I will get an apartment somewhere.
I am interested in arts and language and practising yoga and not breathing in the same fine layer of dirt that coats the walls of the hotel.

I will come to the monthly get together but would anyone maybe show me around before then?
I don't know if that it "done".
