which car to get before coming to Cairo

I will be moving to Cairo in August. I am trying to find out which car suits Egypts streets the most. I am searching for an endourable and reliable ride that is a good use in the City as well as in the desert.

What are your recommendations/experiences?
How would you describe the local traffic and street conditions?
What else is nice to know?
