Moving to Canberra from India - timing

Dear all,

We are a family of three, including our 8-year-old daughter, from Chennai, India. We are planning to land in Canberra in mid-May. We would have to look for a house and jobs after we arrive. Would be great if we could get an opinion from the group on whether it will be too cold for us. I know it's winter and I've heard some scary stories about the chillness factor there at that time... But we are also worried about the delay if we come in September post winter.
