Parent Visa (Canberra)

Hi All,
i will be migrating to Canberra in Feb/Mar time frame from Bangalore, India. intially it would me my mom, my kid and myself who would be making the move. my husband would join us later.
My mom is not dependent on me, hence she would be entering Oz on a visitors visa.

Could you let me know the options i have for extending the Visitors visa for her.
I really want her to be with me, when i am in Canberra.

I know about the contributory parents visa, but i believe that i need to be Oz for 2 years before i can apply that for my parents.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
