Moving from US to Cancun (Cancún)

Hello everyone! I am looking into moving to Cancun for a year or maybe a bit more with my wife. She is a Russian citizen and I am a US citizen. Cancun gives us a good place to live as we're waiting for her US visa to be approved.
Could those of you who live there give me some information on the city? Best areas to live in, what it's like, what the people are like, how life is in general there... ect.

I am currently a network administrator in Texas so any kind of IT jobs would be perfect for me. I know that not being from Mexico the IT jobs could be limited, does anyone have any advice/info on that?
