DHA receipt (Cape Town)

Have a DHA stamped receipt "April Protected content for a retiree visa. Am I free to come in and out SA as i please; by showing the receipt at the custom; or i am restraint to stay in or out SA until decision has been reach. (Been out of SA since end of April).
Should i re-enter without showing my receipt and be granted a 3 months tourist visa? and hoping the retiree visa be granted while in the country.
What is the best way to re-enter without compromising my application.
