Health Care in South Africa (Cape Town)

I was just wondering how health insurance works in South Africa. Should we have it through my husbands employer (the CSIR)? Will we have to purchase it ourselves out of his salary? What kind of range would plans with generous coverage fall into in terms of price? Would anyone be able to recommend a good internist?
