Visa for 9 month stay (Cape Town)

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are planning to move from Amsterdam to Cape Town for around 9 months. We will both be working from home and won't need a work visa. We basically need some kind of 'tourist' visa, but for longer than 90 days. What are the options?
Is it also possible to (shortly) leave the country to renew the regular 90-days tourist visa? We have used this strategy before in Argentina....
