safety in caracas (Caracas)

my Venezuelan friend is offering a job in his family company and i don t know what to do(i have never planned to work there).on the internet i read that crime rate is very high and police is very corrupt.i know the family very well and they will do everything to help me.but my plans are not for venezuela,i just wanted to learn what is it like living and working there(safety is my main concern)and my spanish is very basic
