advice appreciated: searching for a flat (Cardiff)

Hi all,

I'm moving to Cardiff this summer from Leiden, the Netherlands, for a three-year PhD at Cardiff University. While I can get a student room via the university, I'm in my late twenties and I've been living in my own one-bed flat in Leiden for the past couple of years. In the Netherlands, doing a PhD means starting work, and though in the UK PhDs have the status of students, I want to approach it as a job. As such, I'm looking for a studio or one-bed flat and it doesn't have to be in one of the main student areas (I'm used to biking, so everything within a five-or-so-mile radius of the university humanities building would be fine). Is there anyone with tips or advice on finding a flat? Location, price, things to keep in mind that may be UK-specific, etc.? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
