Thai skills: how important for selfemployed people (Chiang Mai)

Hi,

I’m a German photographer and web designer and I’ve spent 5 month in CM back in Protected content at the RMUTL University. I am married to a Thai wife, and we plan to move back to CM in the future.

I do have some Thai language experience, I did a one semester learning course, but it’s still far away from easy conversation.

I wonder how much being not able to talk Thai so well limits the ability to get into the Thai market for photography and web design? Does anybody have an experience to share?

Otherwise, is there a noteworthy farang market in CM? Or do these markets mix somehow?

Being a language teacher is something that my wife proposes at me regularly, but I am not so keen to work as a language teacher. I would rather invest in improving my Thai language skills and try to find customers in my field of business.

So what do you think about that?
Would also be nice to find somebody to talk about how to organize daily life and business in CM. :-)

Thanks
