US Expat Residence Permit (Cologne)

Hoping someone might be able to advise or give direction on my situation. I am being transferred by my company to our Netherlands location. But need to reside in Koln for purposes of my son(s) opportunity with soccer and schooling. Trying to work thru how I would obtain a residence visa in Germany if I will be working for our Dutch office. Initial indication from my company is living in Germany, with a Dutch work permit will not be possible. We do not have an office in Germany. IF anyone has any advice on this would be appreciated.
