Bentota - good place to stay (Colombo)

Ayubowan in Bentota is a friendly guesthouse run by Swiss/Sri Lankan
family. Call Walter Protected content .

The good things:
run by a LOVELY family
quiet environment
home baked bread, freshly made coffee (good stuff), great food
prepared when you want, how you like it - great cooks
bungalows or rooms, good range of prices (from 8 Euros to 80 Euros)
air con hot water, fridge and cooker in bungalow
gorgeous garden
shade on the pool from mid morning onwards (on a slope facing east,
away from setting sun)
wireless and skype available
german and english spoken
bentota can get busy and crowded, this place is NOT, although there
are (non resident) tourists there - guests have often flown in
straight from Europe

The not so good things:
Its on the land side of the Galle Road, so to get to Bentota beach,
you need to cross the road, go down a windy path, go over the train
tracks, walk down sandy path, and then ... deserted beach waiting for
you. 5 mins away.
there is no shade at bentota beach
the surf can be rough
the garden has a pool, a pond and an ornamental lake, so if you have
younger kids, they need float armbands/constant supervision
no tv/dvd in rooms (suppose that coudl be a good thing?). there is a
communal telly and dvd player up at the main house
you can hear the traffic (but not so bad its unbearable)

We like the bungalow down by the pool on the right hand side. It has a
good sized verandah you can fence off to keep the kids in. Also you
can watch the kids swimming while you drink coffee and have breakfast
overlooking the garden. There are mongooses, lots of birds, and
friendly dogs (they are kept on leash and not annoying - Nani is a
playful puppy, will steal your slippers if you leave them out).
