The Shilpa Art Festival gives children from Sri Lanka, aged Protected content , the chance to exhibit artwork that expresses their feelings on a variety of topics such as village and urban life, peace and harmony among communities, and nature and the environment.

Shilpa Children’s Trust began its art programme after the tsunami in December Protected content , working mainly in Hambantota with Protected content who had lost their parents and loved ones in the tragedy that devastated their communities.

Harriet Edleistein of the American Jewish World Service, Sarah Lucas and a group of artists from Art Refuge USA trained Shilpa’s social workers to help the children tell their stories through art, enabling them to cope with their grief and to renew their hopes for the future.

Five years on, the children are still painting beautiful pictures. This year we thought we would also invite school children from Colombo and from other areas to exhibit their paintings. On display there will also be some pictures done by children in the North.

The paintings are for sale at Rs1,500 each and the proceeds will go directly to the child's school or organisation.

Please join us in the lobby of the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo, on Sunday 5th September Protected content , from 10am to 9pm, to celebrate the work of these talented children, and please bring your friends too!
