Colombo to Bentota

Hi there,
My husband and i will be visiting Sri Lanka this Christmas, can anybody recommend the best way to get from Bentota to Colombo center? Is the train safe and easy to purchase tickets, any train or the speed train??? Or a taxi? Any idea how much would the taxi fare, train fare?
Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.
