Standard Chartered Colomboscope Protected content “Making History”

The Standard Chartered Colomboscope arts festival returns to Colombo for its second consecutive year to celebrate contemporary literature, music, dance and theatre and bring artists, academics and cultural commentators from Sri Lanka and Europe together from 30th January to 2 February Protected content . This year’s festival will explore the theme “Making History”, which it shares with the Colombo Art Biennale, Colombo’s cutting edge showcase of both local and international contemporary visual arts.

There will be author readings, guided walks, talks, panel discussions, dance, drama and musical performances from artists such as: Gob Squad (UK and German artists making performances and videos which search for beauty in the everyday), Egyptian-Lebanese multimedia artist Lara Baladi, Iraqi/German writer Abbas Khider, sociologist Dr. Marcus Hawel, Shyam Selvadurai, Shehan Karunatilaka, Protected content Best of Young British novelists Adam Foulds and Joanna Kavenna, Mind Adventures Theatre Company, dancer Venuri Perera, Musicmatters and the Chamber Music Society of Colombo. The historical venues will give festival goers a chance to discover and explore parts of Colombo rarely visited such as Whist Bungalow and its gardens in Mutwal; Old Town Hall – Pettah; Grand Oriental Hotel – Fort; St Peter’s Church Fort, New Town Hall Auditorium - Green Path; Nuga Tree Sri Lanka Foundation – Independence Square; Rio Cinema & Hotel Complex – Slave Island; Goethe Institut – Gregory’s Road.

The programme has free and ticketed only events (Rs Protected content , with concessions for educational institute students.
