French Art Day – Francophone community showcasing its best talent (by Alexandra Bode)

With over 10,000 compatriots in Copenhagen alone, an active Institut Français and regular events hosted by the French Embassy, the French speaking community certainly is one of the bigger and more active ones in the Copenhagen expat scene. Yet, a lot of francophones moving here experience a certain disconnectedness, especially those in the art and creative field.

Julie-Marine Guérin, Fanny Le Gall and Nicolas Bonvalet set out to change this - What started as the idea to bring some francophone artists together for a small event, to showcase their works and connect them with the French, but also Danish art community quickly grew into a big happening at Øksnehallen: “We realized that in order to give all 35 artists the appropriate space to present their work, we needed to approach a venue big enough to host them all, together with providing enough space for our side activities like the children’s workshop, the French café and the video area”, says the team.

The first comprehensive showcase of contemporary French art ranging from paintings over video installations to sculpture and opera singing in Denmark is taking place on. Protected content
