Best way to send money back to the US? (Dakar)

Hi. I am being paid in CFA, and, as an American, would like to have my money in USD. For transactional ease, my account is at the same bank as my employer, and I can do a wire transfer from the bank to my account in the US, but they charge high fees for the transfer and I lose a few hundred dollars on the transaction. Any recommendations for alternate ways to do it? Is buying travelers cheques a better option?
