Moving to Dallas

Hello InterNations!
My husband has just accepted a job in Dallas, TX. We are moving probably mid-late April.
Looking for places to live 2 bedroom apartment or condo walking distance to shops, groceries, etc. We have a baby and a dog..any suggestions? Areas I should avoid and look into?
Commuting for my husband is not a problem...
We want an area that has the family aspect and its safe to walk during the day and even a bit at night.
