Importing goods to Tanzania (Dar es Salaam)

Hi I will be moving to Tanzania and intend to bring in business and personal items using sea freight. I will also be looking to import a car from Japan. I have read some horror stories about clearing customs. Does anyone have experiance of this or could anyone offer me advice as to what is the best way to do this.
