Bringing family pets to Doha

Hi,
I have relocated to Doha and the rest of my family will be following me in a few months time. I have noticed that I have not seen any dogs in my two weeks in Doha and was also told by a few work mates that dogs are being frowned upon and not too welcome here in this country. Is this true? This can be critical as we are not willing to give up our dogs and it may result in a complete change of plans if we cannot bring our dog with us. Can anyone help shed any light about this issue?
