Tourist Visa renewal (Doha)

I am coming to Doha on a work visa and will then get a residency permit. My wife is coming with me and will initially enter on a tourist visa. If my RP is not issues within the first 30 days, can she get the tourist visa renewed in Qatar or does she have to head over to Dubai and then re-enter. We have been given conflicting advice on this. We are from the UK. Many thanks in advance.
