January holidays in Dubai

My friends and I are thinking of some holidays in Dubai for the beginning of January.
I wonder about the weather at that time, and also if there's anything fun to do? I know it'll be the shopping festival but not sure if it means some serious discounts and good deal... What else would you recommend to do in Dubai in January?

Would we be able to enjoy the beach or is it too cold in January?
