best residential areas in North Dublin

Hello, I have moved to Dublin three days back with my husband. I am searching for an apartment. My husband works for Allied Irish bank. My budget is Protected content 1200.I have heard north Dublin is not very safe, but as i am not able to find good houses in my budget in south Dublin, i want to give a try to North as well.
Which would be the best areas in North Dublin/City center considering the public transport and safety.
