The New Machine Age Intensive Course in July (Duesseldorf)
Making sense of the digital revolution
Hi, I'm running a one week intensive course about the nature and the impact of the digital revolution for VHS Düsseldorf in July. Because it takes a place at VHS Düsseldorf, it's an officially accredited "Bildungsurlaub". According to NRW state law, employees have the right to take the time off, in addition to their regular vacation days. It's not a language course, but English is the course language and all the material is in English. Here's the complete description:
Computers have learned to diagnose diseases, drive cars, write clean prose and win game shows. Advances like these have created enormous wealth, while median income has stagnated and employment levels are falling. Businesses and individuals must learn to use the unprecedented technological capabilities to their advantage instead of seeing them as competition. Thanks to the powerful effect of exponential growth, the speed of change will increase and bring more radical changes than most people imagine.
This comprehensive workshop takes a close look at key concepts like exponential growth, the law of accelerating returns and the latest advances in machine learning, to name just a few. We will enter into virtual conversations with some of the new machine age's protagonists like Ray Kurzweil, Peter Thiel, Jeremy Howard and Marc Andreesen. But we will also consider critical voices like for example those of Jaron Lanier, Andrew Keen and Bill Joy.
The highly interactive concept is focused on learner participation and training communication skills: trainees will actively engage with the ideas and concepts presented, through group work, discussions and meeting simulations.
